Western Field Studies

The Western Field Studies program is designed for high school grades 9, 10, 11 & 12.  Classes begin in the spring of each year and end in June with a field study in Wyoming.

Three major components make up the program:

  1. Coursework, taught locally, emphasizes the history and ecology of the Western United States.
  2. A field trip experience at Teton Science School and National Park in Wyoming.  The staff at the school provides a five-day intensive program focusing on mountain ecosystems, biology, botany, geology and Western history.  Students participate in several day hikes utilizing the mountain environment.
  3. Planned visits to Yellowstone National Park and landmarks will provide a variety of educational experiences.

The Western Field Studies program is an educational option that can offer 1/2 unit of credit to participating students.  This program is affiliated with the Teton Science School, which provides quality environmental field science education programs year round through direct interaction with the natural environment of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
