Today’s classroom student body represents more diversity than ever. By the year 2020, almost half of the U.S. school population will consist of members of non-Caucasian cultural groups.
This vibrant mixture of cultural, ethnic, linguistic and experiential plurality will have profound implications for developing instructional programs at all levels of education. There are no universal solutions or specific rules for teaching and responding to ethnic, gender and cultural diversity in the classroom. Perhaps the overriding principle is to be thoughtful and sensitive.
